Education: Complete a high school diploma or GED.
Training: Enroll in a sterile processing technician training program, often available at community colleges or vocational schools. These programs typically cover sterilization techniques, infection control, and equipment handling. Our program here at USCI can be completed in 4 months.
Certification: Obtain certification, such as the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM). If you pursue CRCST certification from HSPA, it’s required that you pass the certification exam and complete 400 hours of hands-on experience in a Central Service department. These hours can be completed before testing or within 6 months of passing the exam. Please note that you are responsible for obtaining the 400 hours of hands-on experience once you finish our Sterile Processing Technician course- USCI will not provide this training.
Internship/Experience: Gain hands-on experience through internships or entry-level positions in hospitals or healthcare facilities. Our career coaches (included in your program) will assist you with your goals and help prepare your resume.
