Education: To become a sterile processing technician in Michigan, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent. Enroll in an accredited sterile processing program. Programs can be completed in a few months and cover sterilization techniques, infection control, and equipment handling. Our program here at USCI can be completed in 4 months. Certification: Consider taking the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam offered by HSPA. If you pursue CRCST certification from HSPA, it’s required that you pass the certification exam and complete 400 hours of hands-on experience in a Central Service department. These hours can be completed before testing or within 6 months of passing the exam. Please note that you are responsible for obtaining the 400 hours of hands-on experience once you finish our Sterile Processing Technician course- USCI will not provide this training. Michigan does not require state licensing for sterile processing technicians, but certification enhances job prospects and credibility.
