Education: Complete a Sterile Processing Technician training program accredited by the California Department of Public Health or recognized organizations like IAHCSMM or CBSPD. These programs typically cover infection control, sterilization methods, and surgical instrument handling. Our program here at USCI can be completed in 4 months.
Certification: Obtain certification by passing an exam from IAHCSMM (Certified Registered Central Service Technician, CRCST). Certification may be mandatory for employment in some facilities. If you pursue CRCST certification from HSPA, it’s required that you pass the certification exam and complete 400 hours of hands-on experience in a Central Service department. These hours can be completed before testing or within 6 months of passing the exam. Please note that you are responsible for obtaining the 400 hours of hands-on experience once you finish our Sterile Processing Technician course- USCI will not provide this training.
