This is a theory-based program and does not offer the live clinical practice typically necessary for certification in Ohio. It is the student’s responsibility to check certification or licensure requirements in the state and arrange their own hands-on learning experience.

Meet Basic Requirements – Be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
Complete a Phlebotomy Training Program – Enroll in an accredited phlebotomy course, typically lasting a few weeks to a few months. Programs sometimes include classroom instruction and hands-on training. Our program here at USCI is completed 100% online in as little as 3 months.
Obtain Certification (Optional but recommended) – Phlebotomy Technician graduates may sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam via the NHA’s Pre-Externship Route; however, graduates will need hands-on experience completing a minimum of 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks or finger sticks on live individuals, following completion of the program to receive certification. This experience is not included in the program. Graduates must complete this experience within 90 days of passing the CPT exam and are responsible for securing their own experience site. Students must contact local blood testing providers (e.g., Labcorp or Quest), hospitals or doctor’s offices to seek out live experience opportunities.
