Online High School Resources

One of the many advantages to online high school is that it requires very little to get started: a reliable learning device and internet access, a suitable workspace, and perhaps earbuds or some traditional office/school supplies. In fact, most online learners never leave the comfort of home to achieve their high school diploma, in part due to the number of resources available to online high school learners right at their fingertips. Whether you are doing research for an assignment, need help with writing or subject-specific content, or are just looking to sharpen your skills or learn more on a topic, here are ten online high school resources you may want to check out to support you in your academic journey!
- Khan Academy– Khan Academy is a trusted, standards-aligned library of video and supplementary materials for students and educators. Created by experts, Khan Academy is also user friendly, contains a wide range of content, and is FREE. It is also translated into several languages for non-native English speakers.
- CNN10– CNN10 is a free daily news show whose mission is to break down complicated major news stories about current events and global issues in 10 minutes or less. It is targeted for anyone over the age of 13.
- National Geographic Online Resource Library – The National Geographic Online Resource Library contains thousands of resources of all different content types, covering a wide range of topics. Its user-friendly website allows you to sort by subject, content, and grade level.
- Purdue OWL– One of the most comprehensive globally renowned writing resources, Purdue OWL offers support on everything from general writing advice to subject-specific writing help, and online reference and citation services.
- edX– Designed to be interactive and engaging, edX is a popular online platform for high school students, offering over 2500 courses and materials for free.
- Duolingo– Interested in learning or improving your skills in a foreign language? Duolingo is a free app that high schoolers can utilize to learn or enhance their foreign language skills to better position themselves in the global community.
- YouTube EDU– While most everyone is familiar with YouTube, YouTube EDU is an education-specific channel, focused on both academic subject-specific videos and hobby or special interest learning videos like cooking or fitness, as well as offering videos on study and learning tips.
- Smithsonian Open Access – Smithsonian Open Access allows you to download and share 4.5 million digital images and data from across Smithsonian’s 21 museums, 9 research centers, libraries, archives, and the National Zoo.
- Desmos – Looking for a math resource? Desmos provides a free suite of math tools, including a graphing calculator. With a mission to help everyone learn math, Desmos prioritizes equity and accessibility.
- NYTimes and Verizon – These two blockbuster companies have partnered to offer every US HS student free access to the NY Times. This free online resource also includes English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math, ELL and Art, and Current Events supports.
